The Problems with Trump’s Chosen War with Iran
Here are five problems that many Americans have with Trump’s war:
- Campaign Promises: Prior to the 2024 Presidential Election, Trump campaigned against involving Americans in another war like the Iraq war and Afghanistan war. So what did he do? Hmm?
- No Involvement of the American People and Congress: Trump has undermined the U.S. Constitution by failing to seek Congressional authorization for the war. He acts like the constitution does not apply to him. His remarks about using U.S. cities as "training grounds" or targeting "war from within" have sparked fears about the erosion of democratic norms. Will even more drastic measures take place during the mid-term elections in November of 2026?
- No Involvement from Allies Let’s say that you are a citizen of the middle eastern county Qatar. One day you walk outside your home in the capital city of Doha. Suddenly, Iranian missiles are blowing up all around you. his is the situation in many of our allied, middle eastern countries such as Quatar, UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Israel, and Saudi Arabia find themselves. As of March 11, 2026, around 320 innocent people have died, including 175 at a Iranian School for young girls. Over a 1,200 people in Iran along have been killed, many of them innocent civilians. These numbers will only grow. How do you think the leaders of our allies feel? Included?
- Economic Disruption and Costs: The conflict has choked off oil and gas supplies, sending fuel prices soaring globally. Now Iran says it will block the Strait of Hormuz an oil prices surged past $100 a barrel for the first time since 2022. Experts estimate that the war has cost around $1 billion per day. How many days has the war lasted now?
- Does Not Make America Great: Could we use these billions at home? Yep. Provide $2,000 tax break to working class Americans that are struggling with affordability. Lower the price of gas! Support the farmers with that money! Support FEMA! Stop the spread of measles in the U.S. by promoting the vaccine. By the way, as of March 26, 2026, there have been 1,575 confirmed measles cases reported in the U.S. in 2026.
I understand, probably better than most, the U.S and Israel’s history. I know that Jesus Christ was a Jew and that many modern-day, evangelical Christians in the U.S. have been taught that God told Abraham in Genesis 12:3 that he would bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him. This is further identified with Israel in Numbers 24:1-9.
Many evangelical Christians believe that to be blessed personally and as a nation, you must support Israel. On a personal level, evangelicals have a high view of Jewish people as an ethnicity and pray for Israel whenever there is a conflict in the Middle East.
I also understand that in 1945, the United States military helped to liberate the Jews in WW II who were held in Nazi “extermination camps.” With tears in their eyes, my Jewish friends tell me of their grandfathers who helped liberate the Jews.
I also understand that the U.S. was also the first country to recognize the provisional government of the state of Israel upon its founding in 1948, and it has for many decades been a strong and steady supporter of the Jewish state.
I also understand that Israel has received hundreds of billions of dollars in U.S. foreign aid and military arms in the post–World War II era, a level of support that reflects many factors, including a U.S. commitment to Israel’s security and the countries’ shared foreign policy interests in a volatile and strategically important part of the world.
I also understand that the U.S had morals and values, even in war, in the past.
If one raises questions, the person is accused of not reading the whole Bible.
Supposedly, the person does not even know the questions to ask or does not understand the Bible. He/she is told to check the context of the passage and compare Scripture with Scripture.
The U.S. Should Not Blindly Support Any Nation That Kills Innocents
All that I know is that the U.S. used to have certain values. Not anymore!
After a thorough investigation, did you know that the International Criminal Court on November 21, 2024, issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant.
Arrest warrants for what? For being responsible for the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts during the Gaza war. The warrant against Netanyahu is the first against a leader of a Western-backed democratic country for war crimes in history!
America should not blindly support a nation that kills and starves innocent civilians!
All 125 ICC member countries including France and the United Kingdom, are required to arrest Netanyahu and Gallant if they enter either country’s territory.
What about the U.S.? No, the U.S. is not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Why? Because they are afraid of U.S. leaders of being arrested. We signed the founding Statute in 2000 but we never ratified the treaty. The George W. Bush administration formally withdrew its signature in 2002. The U.S. has maintained a policy of non-participation since. Hmmm.

So what does Trump do? This. See the picture above. Bruhs!
I watched in horror as the national news reported the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel that killed 1,195 and took 251 people hostage.
I also watched 30,000 Gazans die from American/Israel bombs or of hunger. I watched as homes and cities were destroyed leaving hundreds of thousands homeless who survived Israel’s counterattacks.
The death toll did not match with Israel’s death toll: 30,000 killed by Israel to 1,195 killed by Hamas. I listened to Benjamin Netanyahu. My spirit became very uneasy.
The evangelical community around me continued to mostly encourage prayers for Israel. Rarely was there a mention or did the evangelical community encourage prayers for innocent people dying in Gaza. I wondered why.
It Became Personal
My wife’s maternal grandfather was from Lebanon. He immigrated here from Bekaa Valley in Eastern Lebanon when he was about 19 years old. Lebanon is a special place for us!
I have a several good friends in and from Lebanon. One good friend and her husband and two children live here in this country. She is a professor and lives in the U.S. I have been in her, her husband’s, and in her children’s home. She cooked a feast for my wife, mother, and me. It was indeed a feast!
Her 80-year-old parents are “holed up” in a hotel somewhere near Beirut to avoid the Israeli/American bombs and missiles. Senior adults should not have to leave home and “hole up” in a hotel to be safe. They are no threat to Israel or the United States.
You must understand that Israel has continued its relentless bombardment of Lebanon for since the fall of 2024.
As of today, April 1, 2026, reports indicate that U.S. and Israeli strikes have killed at least 1,900 people in Iran. Many of them have been civilians. A total of 1,574 to 1,598 civilians in Iran have been killed, including over 230 children. More than 1,260 Lebanese are dead and 50 more in gulf nations. Who killed all of these people?
Trump is fortunate that the United Stated pulled out of the International Criminal Court!
Death Became Personal
My Lebanese friend who lives here in the U.S. texted me very early on or near September 23, 2024. I could tell that something was wrong. I read it in her text.
I called her to find out what was wrong. She informed me that three of her nieces has been killed by Israeli/American bombs or missiles.
The death of three innocent young women had become personal.
The Oldest was Just 30

Here is a picture of the three young women who died: Zeinab, Sarah, and Rabab, from front to back.
Sarah, in the middle, was just 30 and a young mom of three little ones – twin boys and a little girl. Those kids will now grow up with their mom being just a memory.
She had a degree in finance and worked at a bank
Zeinab in front was 28 years old, busy preparing for her wedding, and had a master’s degree.
Rabab in back was just 25 years old. She was in the process of completing her Bachelor of Science degree.
All three young women were highly educated and were absolutely no threat to Israel and the United States. Yet there were killed by American/Israeli bombs and missiles in Southern Lebanon anyway. Fair? You tell me. Needless killings? Yes! Murder?
They Had No Forewarning
Death often invades our personal space without a forewarning. This is how it was for these young women.
Both Zeinab and Rebab, who are sisters, were home. Sarah, the oldest at 30, was visiting her parents’ house with her three kids in an adjacent home. No warning. Boom! Both houses were leveled. The three young women were killed. The parents and the children survived. Israel/American bombs leveled civilian homes. Innocent lives were taken.
Conclusion
I along with the majority of Americans denounce Trump’s chosen war.
- There was no congressional declaration of war nor authorization for the use of force in Iran, making Trump’s actions transparently unconstitutional and illegal. Who will hold him accountable?
- Even with congressional approval, Trump’s actions in Iran would violate international law. His war is illegal.
- Iran did not pose an imminent security threat to the United States. Trump himself said that Iran’s nuclear capabilities were “obliterated” back in June of 2025. Obliterated means eradicated. Yet one of the bumbling, shifting reasons he gives for this war is that “we did this for the rest of the world.” Did what? Some say that Israel persuaded Trump to go to war. Israel had been wanting to go to war with Iran for years.
- Exactly like the Iraq war that Trump claimed to oppose, this is a war of choice driven by arrogance and Trump’s ego and ambition.
- And exactly like the Iraq war, the risks are great — with needless short-term deaths inevitable and long-term consequences unknowable. Now, Trump has sent more of our troops into the region. The number of American deaths will only grow.
Although a vote failed in Congress for the War Powers Resolution to force an end to hostilities, a surge of grassroots pressure and the incoherence of the Trump administration’s justification for the war, led nearly every congressional Democrat to support the resolution. Almost all Republicans abdicated their duties to America and voted against the Resolution.
With a bumbling Trump advocating for an expanded and protracted war in Iran, the use of American ground troops, and reinstituting the draft, it is crucial to halt new funding to support war and to prevent a repeat of the Iraq war and the death and destruction it wrought. Trump wants more $ for war!
Even before the war, Trump had announced plans to seek a staggering $500 billion annual increase in Pentagon spending, a financial commitment that would starve funding for non-military priorities.
The Threats to Democracy are Deadly Serious
When an autocratic leader like Trump goes to war on pretextual and bad-faith grounds, the threats to democracy are more deadly. War paves the way for attacks on a civil society, suppressing civil liberties, and targeting disfavored minorities.
Even before the start of the Iran war, the Trump administration had unleashed an out-control, paramilitary ICE gang targeting immigrants; killed two Americans with no criminal record; arrested and sent many with darker skin away; and threatened to crack down on groups it claimed supported “domestic terrorism.” By the way, almost 74% of those detained by ICE do not have a criminal record!
If the war is prolonged, we should expect to see repressive measures intensify in the U.S. Now he wants to take control of the midterm elections in November of 2026.
Although MAGA supporters are waking up and seeing Trump for who he really is (e.g. Marjorie Taylor Green), Republicans are saying the war necessitates unlocking funding for the Department of Homeland Security, monies currently on hold because Republicans refuse to agree to modest reforms to stop some of ICE and Customs and Border Protection’s unconstitutional and immoral practices. Yes, the Government partial shutdown is a Republican issue.
War puts the nation on emergency footing, justifying the subordination of democratic practices and protections. It generates demands for rally-around-the-flag fidelity, with dissent characterized as support for the enemy.
It normalizes secrecy and lying to the public (admittedly, this was already a defining feature of the Trump presidency). It demands that the other branches of government defer to the executive in the name of national security.
All of this may exacerbate the worst and most dangerous features of the Trump autocracy prior to and during the November 2026 elections.
Really, the war is a distraction to get Americans looking at it rather than at its President’s predilection for young girls. After all, he was Jeffrey Epstein’s best friend. Who knows what Epstein and Trump were involved in?
War and alleged national security risks may provide a pretext for the most aggressive election sabotage schemes. I hope that I am wrong!
Against all this, there is but one thing to do:
Ensure that Americans exercise their rights and refuse to be intimidated. That is exactly what I aim to do.
